What the numbers mean
These two are the UK's best-known family SUVs, but buyers pay a clear premium for the Sportage. From 2022 onwards a Sportage typically costs £2,700-£4,800 more than a Qashqai of the same year, even though the Sportage examples in our data had covered more miles. Part of that gap is the Sportage's seven-year warranty, which can still be running on a car that is several years old, and its high share of hybrids (35%). The Qashqai's faster yearly drop is good news if you are buying: a three- or four-year-old Qashqai is one of the cheapest ways into a mainstream family SUV. If you are selling, the Sportage is the safer bet for resale. Note the 2021 Sportage cars in our sample averaged around 41,500 miles, which pulls that year's median down.
