Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This policy explains what data moValue collects, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. We operate under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. If you have a question, please email us at [email protected].
Who we are
moValue is an independent UK car valuation service operated from the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR, we are the data controller for the personal data you provide when using our website.
What data we collect
We only collect what we need to run the service.
- Vehicle registration numbers (VRNs). When you run a valuation, we use the reg plate you enter to query public DVLA and DVSA records. A VRN by itself is not personal data, but we store the VRNs you have valued on your account if you choose to save them.
- Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password (never stored in plain text), and optionally your name.
- Saved cars. Vehicles you choose to save on your dashboard.
- Usage data. Standard web analytics: pages viewed, approximate location by country, referring site, device type. We use this to understand what is working and what is broken.
- Communications. If you email us or fill in our contact form, we store those messages.
What we do not collect
- We do not ask for your phone number at any point during valuation.
- We do not require your address to run a valuation.
- We do not track you across other websites with cookies we set.
- We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
How we use your data
We process your data under the following UK GDPR lawful bases:
- Contract. To run the valuation service you have asked for.
- Legitimate interests. To improve our site, prevent abuse, and measure product performance.
- Consent. For optional newsletter subscription and for non-essential cookies, which we request explicitly.
Cookies and third-party services
We use a small number of cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (e.g. light or dark theme), and measure anonymised site usage. We also use the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Google Analytics and Google AdSense for analytics and advertising. You can opt out via your browser's ad settings or Google's own opt-out tool.
- Stripe for processing optional premium report payments. We never see or store your full card number.
- DVLA and DVSA APIs for official vehicle and MOT data. Our queries to them contain only the reg plate.
- AWS/S3 for static asset hosting.
How long we keep your data
If you have an account, we keep your data for as long as the account is active. If you delete your account, we erase your personal data within 30 days, except data we are legally required to retain (for example, Stripe transaction records for UK tax purposes, kept for up to 7 years). If you never create an account, we do not store any personally identifying information about you.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct any data that is wrong.
- Delete your account and personal data.
- Object to any processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
Children
moValue is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone in that age group.
