What the numbers mean
The Golf and A3 share most of their engineering. When nearly new, the A3 sells for more (about £2,700-£4,300 more on 2025-2026 cars). By the time they are three years old, the two cost almost exactly the same: the 2023 medians are £19,274 and £19,299 at similar mileages. Only the Polo loses value more slowly among the 15 popular models we analysed. The A3 is a little less sensitive to mileage (−5.1% v −5.9% per 10,000 miles). If you want the Audi badge, buying one at three or more years old means you are not paying extra for it.
