How the BMW 1 Series compares with the market
Holding mileage, fuel and gearbox constant, each extra year of age takes about 5.4% off the asking price of a used BMW 1 Series. That is roughly in line with the market, which loses about 5–6% a year, and ranks 6th of the 15 most-listed models in our study (1st loses the least).
Each extra 10,000 miles takes about 4.8% off, which is close to the market rate of about 5% per 10,000 miles; that ranks 7th of 15 for mileage. Overall, the BMW 1 Series sits close to the typical used car, with age doing slightly more of the damage.
BMW 1 Series asking prices by year
The oldest model year in the table, 2018 (10 cars), has a median asking price of £13,249 with 43,713 miles. The newest, 2026, sits at £25,449 with 7,800 miles. The biggest jump between consecutive years is from 2023 (£19,724) to 2024 (£22,899), partly because the newer cars have fewer miles (17,970 against 24,623).
| Year | Cars | Median price | Median mileage |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 10 | £13,249 | 43,713 |
| 2019 | 10 | £13,649 | 53,805 |
| 2020 | 33 | £15,699 | 50,180 |
| 2021 | 41 | £16,499 | 39,407 |
| 2022 | 44 | £18,199 | 32,199 |
| 2023 | 58 | £19,724 | 24,623 |
| 2024 | 39 | £22,899 | 17,970 |
| 2025 | 29 | £25,799 | 9,469 |
| 2026 | 27 | £25,449 | 7,800 |
Medians mix trims, engines and fuel types, so a single year's figure can move up or down with the mix of cars on sale. The per-year and per-mile rates above come from a regression that controls for fuel and gearbox.
What this means if you're selling your BMW 1 Series
The 1 Series market is overwhelmingly petrol (89%), with diesel at 11%. Three in four cars (76%) are automatic, so a manual 1 Series is the exception and may take longer to sell.
It loses 5.4% a year and 4.8% per 10,000 miles, both close to the market. An automatic is worth about 13.6% more than a manual.
What this means if you're buying a used BMW 1 Series
The 2026 median (£25,449) is slightly below 2025 (£25,799), again a sign that trim and specification move prices as much as the registration year.
2023 is the most common year (58 cars, median £19,724 with 24,623 miles). Older cars from 2018–2019 are scarce in this sample.
Worked example
A 2023 BMW 1 Series with 24,623 miles is advertised at about £19,724. One more year of age takes off roughly £1,070; 10,000 more miles takes off roughly £950. A year in which you also drive 10,000 miles would cost around £2,020 in lost value, before fuel, tax, insurance and servicing.
